The BBFC are the British Board of Film Classification. They are in charge of giving films age rating based of their content. Our promo will get a 15 rating as this is also the rating of the film. It will include a out of shot suicide scene, bad language and violence. We will adhere to the BBFC guidelines by ensuring no graphic violence is shown as this would take our rating up to a 18.
For our promo one legal issue would be the age rating being suitable for the target audience. We would address this by ensuring that our trailer matches the films BBFC rating so that the target audience can view it. Our target audience is 15 - 25 due to our lowed target age being 15 the film will have to fit the BBFC rating of 15 so to do this we will not glamorise drug use, we will not show gory images, We will not focus on the suicide of John and it will not be seen in the short film and the threat of aliens won't be shown as sadistic or sexual.
For our promo one ethical issue is that we cannot show much violence or gore in our promo incase a younger audience stumbles across it. One way we could prevent this is by age restricting the trailer online.
Ofcom are a company that regulate TV and Video on demand sectors. Since we are distributing our product online Ofcom will be regulating it.
We must make sure we don't represent our actors badly. One example is that one of our actors is asian and we must make sure he isn't misrepresented or stereotyped.
We must seek copyright permission for fonts or music used. We would seek permission by contacting the creator of the content. If we cannot get copyright permission for the content we will have to make our own or find some other assets we can get permission for. We will not need royalties for any intellectual property as we are not using any.
Our promo will promote our short film. This will appeal to the target audience as it will tease the content for the film. It will also create hype for the film which will help to promote it. Another way it will meet the purpose is that it will prompt people to share the promo helping it to reach a wider audience.
