Client Brief
The brief is to create a
trailer for a film to promote it. It has to be the length of a trailer which is
about 3 minutes long looking at the conventions of other trailers. It needs to
not give away too much of the narrative but keep the viewer excited about the
film it is promoting.
The purpose of this trailer
is to promote the film, which will improve the overall effectiveness of the
film as if more people know about the film it is likely that more people will
watch the actual short film.
The target audience is
teens around 15 -24 as 15 will be the BBFC rating due to the violence, graphic
content and dark theme which will be unsuitable for longer ages but it world
also be un appealing to an older audience, therefore we have decided to stick
with the age rating 15-18. The gender that we will be targeting is male as
again violence stereotypically is appealing to males however we will not
completely ignore the female gender as even though we are targeting men as
women are still likely to watch it. We will be targeting an C2DE audience as
this will be a free movie to watch which will be low quality due to it having a
very low budget, so it will be at a quality that an ABC1 audience would not
want, therefore a C2DE audience will enjoy. We will not target any specific
ethnicity, as we'll leave it open to try and get a bigger audience.
The narrative will follow a
struggling detective who is working on a case about a serial killer in the
fictional town of Stompton, he is analysing the murders but he also is finding
it very difficult to get anywhere on the case, he also is an alcoholic as he
goes to alcohol whenever he's struggling. We find out that his wife had been
one of the many killed by this killer. Using notes left behind at the murder
scenes, which contain information that only the detective could know, he finds
an abandoned warehouse, which contains a hidden base. In this abandoned
warehouse he learns about the truth, that he was a test subject used by aliens
to see if they can control peoples minds. One scene will contain him sat in his
chair drinking alcohol when suddenly the radio switches itself on and it is a
news report about another murder, then we see the door open and its the
silhouette of a woman who says "honey I'm home and we hear a gunshot and
the woman falls to the ground and we see the detective scream out, he then
wakes up sat in his chair.
We need to include music in
our short film, which will be used to influence the audience’s emotions and
create the correct atmosphere for each scene an example is during the final
scene when the detective finds out the truth we will use suspenseful music to
really get the right effect on the audience. We will also use sound effects to
create verisimilitude within the short film and make it seem realistic.
The mode of address will be
peer to peer due to the target audience being teens; they prefer to be spoken
to as a friend rather then being looked down upon. The star persona, age of
actors and relatable storyline are not tailored towards the target audience and
is more tailored to the storyline to create verisimilitude. One example is that
the main character is a stereotypical detective and the target audience would
struggle to relate to this role however it would still entertain them. One
example of the use of special effects would be when the aliens communicate with
the main character we will use an overlay and alien symbols to show the
audience what is happening. This will excite the target audience, as it will
allow them to speculate what the aliens loom like, as they won't see them. We
will use a dark colour scheme in order to attract a male audience.
We would market this on
social media such as Twitter and YouTube as it is something our target audience
uses as social media is is extremely popular amongst the teenagers and young
adults, This is also a good form of distribution as it's free but a lot of
people use it, however a problem would be the fact that it may not reach a
large amount of people due to the lack of followers on these social medias and
there are loads of other people uploading so our advertisement may be lost
within a sea of other videos.
